Title of PhD project: | Interaction of the matricellular protein CCN1 with immune cells |
Project Abstract: | The secreted matricellular protein CCN1/ Cystein-rich protein 61 (Cyr61) is known to play an important role in extracellular matrix (ECM) processes. Several stimuli as growth factors, cytokines but also mechanical stress are able to induce CCN1 expression. The protein is further upregulated in pathological conditions, especially concerning connective tissue and even cancer. Recently, a strong upregulation of CCN1 in patients with virus infection mediated inflammatory Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCMi) was shown. Here, this PhD-project will deal with the evaluation of the therapeutic potential and immunomodulatory functions of CCN1 in cardiomyopathy. |
