Junior scientist at the BSRT and BCRT meet Nobel Prize winner Print

PhD and post-doctoral students of the Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT) and the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) will have a once in a life time opportunity to meet a Nobel Prize winner. The junior scientist will meet Professor Sir Martin Evans at the BCRT on the Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum on the 5th February 2010 where they will have a chance to chat exclusively over lunch with one of the foremost scientists in the field of stem cell research.

Sir Martin is coming to Berlin to give the prestigious annual Queen’s Lecture, a gift from Queen Elizabeth II to the city of Berlin on the occasion of her visit here in 1965. The lecture will be held at 17:00 on Thursday the 4th February 2010 in the Technical University (Audimax of the Main Building, Straße des 17. Juni 135).

Sir Martin was the first scientist to identify embryonic stem cells which can be adapted for a wide variety of medical purposes. His discoveries are now being applied in virtually all areas of biomedicine – from basic research to the development of new therapies. In 2007 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine, the most prestigious honour in world science, for these “ground-breaking discoveries concerning embryonic stem cells and DNA recombination in mammals”.

The lunchtime discussion at the BCRT is supported by the British Embassy Berlin and the British Council.
